Apocalyptic straw poll

I just gotta know... walking back to my car tonight across the uni, there was a disheveled young man (around 20) wandering around through the dark playing Battle Hymn of the Republic on a harmonica. Sign of the apocalypse or no?

i can haz comic?

While dredging through the spam filter...

One of my daily tasks is to check through the dodgy email and make sure that none of it is real. I'm often amused by the random two word subject lines of the spam. Some of them could be funky band names, or funky online monikers or just idea starters.

Here's a selection from the last week.

So, we went native and got our first bike (when in Rome and all that). We have been assured that all bikes go on an adventure all on their lonesome at some point, so we'll try not to get attatched to it, but check out the brand name... look closely...

Soccer anyone?

Through random circumstances beyond our control, we've ended up with two spare tickets for the Australia v China soccer match on Sunday. So... if you are in Sydney this Sunday and at a loose end and have a few spare dollars lying around, let me know! You will have the fabulous company of Mister Chen, his lovely wife, DestructoMeg and myself.

Monday night supper

left over rice from dinner (around 1 cup)
4 eggs
1/3 cup maple syrup
1 cup milk
nutmeg
brown sugar

beat eggs, milk and maple syrup together. Spread the rice over a shallow ceramic dish then pour over the egg mix. Grate the nut meg over the top, then pop the ceramic dish in a warm water bath. Bang it in the oven and cook for around 25min at 170, or until egg is just set.
To serve, spoon into a bowl, sprinkle with brown sugar and toast under a hot griller until sugar is melty and bubbly.

The Giblet has procreated.

Gibletssonsson was born on Sunday (15th June) night at 32 weeks (Mother had pre-eclampsia) and everyone is well and happy.

He will be in hospital for about another month until he weighs 2kilos and is hale and hearty enough to take over the world.

He doesn't have a real name yet as they were still narrowing down the short list

Recipes with frozen banana

Okay blog land, here's a new meme. I challenge you all to come up with recipes to use up the stash of frozen banana in my freezer. And the stashes of everyone else out there with toddlers. I think we are all having a similar problem.

And then we should have a bake off or something like that. Remember the guac off? Squashed bananas at 10 paces!!!

I can haz betta caption?

The caption is currently "Am I going dis way or dat way?" but I think it could be better. Needs to be really special to stand out on Lolcats.

Birthday party for Liz

These long weekends catch me by surprise these days!!!

The cunning plan, as just devised with DV.

Monday 9th June - BBQ at our place.

From after naptime until bedtime*

BYO dead animal, drinks and junk food. Mr Tops will probably create salad of some sort and there will probably be bread and sausages.

We have a clean carport now so there will be space to hang out should this nasty rain stuff insist on continuing to fall.

All the usual suspects invited. (and the usually suspect)

* For the Crankmaster J, this means 2pm until 7pm, but your times will vary

I pinched this meme

from the lovely Ampersand Duck.

What was I doing 10 years ago?
In 1998 I celebrated my first year of marriage, lost my dad to cancer, and finished my education degree and lots of other stuff I can't remember now.

Five snacks I enjoy in a perfect, non weight-gaining world

1. Cadbury's dairy milk chocolate with almonds.

2. Lemon Meringue pie.

3. Hot chips, crisps it's all good really.

4. Licorice bullets.

5. White toblerones (IRL these make me regret eating them big time)

Five snacks I enjoy in the real world:

6. Malt sticks

7. Toasted cheese sandwiches

8. Bread from the deli in Belconnen

9. cashew nuts

10. cold smashed potato and cold baked sweet potato

Five things I would do if I were a billionaire:

1. Buy my friends houses or pay off their mortgages.

2. Give a couple of million to the Starlight Foundation and similar charities.

3. Have a live-in masseuse. (I like this one of Duckie's so much I'm keeping it)

4. Buy lots of books, lots of books and bookcases and get a bespoke library built in my house, and an indoor swimming pool (but not in the library).

5. Buy a terrace house, a flat overlooking the sea, pay off the mortgage, buy a flat in Canberra do hubby doesn't have to commute all the time.

Five jobs that I have had:

1. Asparagus sorter

2. Checkout chick

3. Teacher

4. Book unpacker and packer

5. General admin dogsbody

Three of my habits:

1. thinking up wildly implausible arguments or fights that could occur and worrying about them

2. reading instead of doing housework

3. getting so fed up with the state of the house I madly start cleaning until the house is clean or I'm sick of it and give up

Five places I have lived:

1. Wallendbeen

2. Cootamundra

3. Sydney (Kensington, Allawah, Sylvania, Hurstville, Marrickville, Normanhurst)

4. Canberra

5. Alice Springs

So go wild, and don't forget to leave a comment if you put this on your blog.
