Vale one of the Cool Pioneer Nerds

This gent is Tristram Cary -

And unfortunately he died last week. He wrote music for Dr Who, amongst a stack of other stuff which I wish I knew, but only just read about here. In the list of recordings he made, is the tantalising -

Devils' Planets, The Music of Tristram Cary The Daleks - The Daleks' Masterplan - The Mutants BBC Worldwide WMSF

and also

Blood from the Mummy's Tomb
(all tracks) GDI Records (UK) GDICD 019

And how fabulous is this computer - the VCS-3 (Voltage Controlled Studio with 3 oscillators) - which he co-designed:

Vale Cool Pioneer Nerd.

Improvements Made

Based on accidentally viewing half an episode of the original Battlestar Galactica, there are a few obvious ways the new one has improved on it.

-- no obese Cylons so shiny they hurt
-- no cute children in main cast, especially ones called "Boxey."
-- And especially no furry animatronic teddy bears! especially ones called "Muffit."
-- better insults. "Go rust yourself" is no match for the frack family of cusses.

My Bonnie Lies Over the Guardrail...

Most of you have heard the story of my little car wreck back in California years ago - because lets face it; I've known most of you folks for long enough that you've heard _all_ my stories, many of them several times. But my dad dug up some old photos this morning, and I wanted to Flickr-ise them to keep a copy safe, so I figured I'd share.

To recap, the shorter version of the story goes like this:
1) I woke up in a strange room that I didn't recognise, going "Ow." (And not in a good way.)
2) I remembered a strangely vivid dream about spinning.
3) I remembered another dream where a police officer was going through my wallet and found a sprig of coyote brush that I'd been given by a native american friend for luck. And I could tell that he thought it was drugs, but every time I tried to explain the words came out all slurred which made me seem stoned, which made me laugh, which made me seem more stoned...
4) I remembered (not in a dream) driving to the airport in the middle of the night after a week of far too many things at once (3 days of ski-camping, 5 days of whitewater rafting, and 1 day of registering for uni courses and drinking too much in the middle. Yes, in 1 week.)
5) And then a nurse came into the strange room, and told me I was going to be fine.

And I was. So fine in fact that it didn't really bother me at all; I was just pissed I'd missed my trip to Mexico, and having fun freaking people out with the blood-red whites of my eyes (I'd burst a couple of minor blood vessels.) Until I went to go see how bad the damage to the car was:

Then I was scared shitless. Seat belts and a roll cage FTW. The highway patrolman reckoned it'd flipped end-over-end 6 or 7 times, by the marks on the pavement. They found the front passenger-side seat another 50 yards down the highway. (I managed to salvage the radio and the fire extinguisher - the rest was a total writeoff.)

(Oh, and the post title? My Jeep's name was Bonnie...)

And another thing!

The extremely fine print under the name says (in disappointingly understandable and scruatble Jinglish) "By breaking down old customs and producting consistently original items, we are pursuing a new level in chocolate enjoyment."
Well, I can agree with them there. It's not a GOOD level, but it is a new one! They taste exactly as you think they should, like a chip dipped in chocolate. Not bad per se, just weird.

On a completely different note...

Have a look at this...http://www.bakersedge.com/
I'm seriously considering the lasagne one for my in-laws!
And, No Lou, I did not remember, Ken left himself signed in somehow (silly man! doesn't he know I will pretend to be him and get him into trouble?!)

Happy Qing Ming Jie!

Well, it's tomorrow and probably works better in the northern hemisphere seeing as it's Spring Festival, but the public holiday tomorrow is Tomb Sweeping Day.

Today, however, is Access-to-Blogger-Without-A-Proxy-Server-Day, the Gods of internet access are smiling upon the populace and that's a pretty exciting thing when you've gone a little stir crazy, so I thought I should mark the occasion, I'm so happy I could... well... I dunno. DV suggested I go and get some scorpions onna stick and get them to spell out ForBattle! but who knows if I'll still have access by the time I get back. So instead, here's a shot of the scorpions onna stick I took yesterday.

Look at them, primed and ready to kill. You honestly expect me to eat that?

Right. I'm off to go fly a kite.

You know you want to...

I think you guys should dress up in tabards and go to this. Take lots of photos and tell me how it goes.
